Bobbi's Summer School: Fruiting Bodies
Silke Riis, Fedrik Vaessens, Nikki Vroom,
Shizhe Qian, Luna van der Straaten
19.07 - 14.09.2025
In the third edition of Bobbi’s Summer School,
exhibition space 38CC gives a platform to five young artists, each exploring in their own practice how mind, body, nature, and technology are intertwined. Their works flow into one another in the exhibition Fruiting Bodies, using diverse materials to make new life forms visible.
In this exhibition, Silke Riis
invites us to reflect on future life forms through sculptures made of clay and latex. Her works connect with the alienating 3D-printed objects of Fedrik Vaessens, which resemble body parts and are treated with materials such as beeswax. Nikki Vroom uses her own body as a starting point for her sculptures, which she distorts by playing with scale and material, thereby raising questions about identity. In Shizhe Qian’s
work, technology and memory meet in textiles and glass, shaped by an AI model trained on images from his family archive. Luna van der Straaten
zooms in on the textures of insects and flowers in her paintings, inviting us to pause and notice details we often overlook, making the tension between humans and nature tangible.
Bobbi’s Summer School
is an initiative by Delft artist and curator Bobbi Cleij. The participating artists were selected by her from responses to an Open Call for recently graduated talent. During the exhibition, the participating artists will also organize
free workshops
for children from Delft, and there will be a
youth studio
at 38CC.
