NOW AND NEXT

30 januari t/m 3 april 2016

"The future has always fascinated people. You can dream completely new worlds or think up and plan concrete things about later. The future itself remains uncertain, however. It is precisely this unpredictability that makes it so attractive. After all, nobody knows exactly what will happen. And also. even if you think you can foresee certain developments, totally unexpected events take place with great regularity that push the future in a completely different direction. The exhibition NOW AND NEXT is about such visions of the future. " Marjolijn Dijkman, Sam Laughlin, Rik Smits, Henk Wildschut
"Capital One by Rik Smits forms the heart of the exhibition. With this large, white 'model' and with his drawings, Smits shows us a city of the future. In this, capitalism and religion seem to be closely related. Van Marjolijn Dijkman is the video Surviving New Land. Sailing around the very beginning of Maasvlakte 2, we hear sound fragments from feature films. In those films, the new land represents a new future with countless possibilities. But sometimes a fiasco or a nightmare. In the Shelter photo project Henk Wildschut, despair is especially lurking, because even though thousands of refugees are moving to Europe for a better future, reality turns out to be a lot more unruly. In his Frameworks series, British photographer Sam Laughlin shows buildings under construction. Unfinished vacancy at night, because halfway through the construction process the financial crisis broke out that brought all activity to a halt "
