Ode to an animal
20.09 - 12.10.2025
How do we view the animals around us? What role do they play in our daily lives as housemates, reminders, or unexpected appearances in the city? In the exhibition Ode to an Animal,
over 160 participants from Delft and the surrounding area pay loving tribute to animals of all shapes and sizes. From paintings and ceramics to sculptures and textiles: each artwork reveals a unique, personal bond between humans and other animals. The paintings were created by painters of VAK Delft, the ceramics by artists affiliated with Zinderin Kunst
in The Hague, and the sculptures and textiles are the result of workshops at Cultuurhuis Delft.
The exhibition was curated in collaboration with Hague artist Shani Leseman. The video space showcases her project "Message from the Pigeon," developed with GC Heemskerk, Norbert Storm, and the pigeons of The Hague and Rotterdam. This offers a preview of Leseman's solo exhibition, opening later this year at 38CC.
With Ode to an Animal, 38CC is fulfilling its program line "For & By Delft Residents": an annual initiative in which Delft residents collaborate on an exhibition.
